Shopper Tried Torching Victim During Supermarket Fight In Virginia: Police

A man was arrested for trying to light a spray canister on fire as he pointed it toward another person during an argument outside of a supermarket in Prince William County, authorities said.

Selvin Magdaleno Corrales Alvarado, 20, of Woodbridge, was found in the parking lot of Food Lion on Richmond Highway around 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, after arguing with a person collecting shopping carts, county police said.

"During the encounter, the accused attempted to light a spray canister on fire as he sprayed the contents towards the victim," police said.

"The victim attempted to take the canister and a physical altercation ensued. Eventually the parties separated, and the police are contacted."

Fire and rescue personnel responded to the location and took the victim to an area hospital with minor injuries. 

Alvarado was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding by a caustic substance.
